15. Another reason I want to be a comedy writer: Because of Melissa McCarthy.

(Here she is nagging her real life husband about “Taking the first watch”)

This funny lady has been inspiring me for years, ever since I saw her at The Groundlings Improv Theatre in Los Angeles.  She’s been tickling us with her humor for over a decade with such characters as Sookie in Gilmore Girls (definitely not the same Suki as in True Blood), the lovable Dena in Samantha Who?, and, of course, as Megan in the hit film Bridesmaids.  It looks like roping her husband into the business has turned out for the best!

Are you ready for Melissa McCarthy to dominate CBS’s comedy lineup as hard as she rocked the entirety of last year? The Mike & Molly star just sold her second half-hour show to the network, a sitcom THR says revolves around a 37-year-old man living with his parents. This follows McCarthy’s September sale of a half-hour comedy project about a mid-40s woman in a midlife crisis. Both shows were co-written by McCarthy’s husband and Bridesmaids co-star Ben “Air Marshall Jon” Falcone. We’re thisclose to devoting a significant amount of every day toward merrily cheerleading for Melissa McCarthy.
