105. Another reason I love Sara Bareilles

She got Jonah Hill to direct her music video for “Gonna Get Over You.”

I had the chance to write a short and long review of her album, Kaleidoscope Heart, for my Writing for the Arts class.  I’ve been listening to Sara for years, starting back when she was at UCLA.  I am sad that I no longer have the EP she sold when she first started out.  In case you can’t tell I’m a fan, I went to see her in concert three times this year 🙂  Here’s a sneak peek of what I thought about her album:

Sara Bareilles’ Kaleidoscope Heart can be summed up in one word: captivating.  Her voice draws you in as the quirky tones of the piano and the unexpected sounds of clapping and snapping remind you that Bareilles has a playful side.  Every song on the record has soul.  Whether it’s the upbeat and Grammy-nominated “King of Anything” or the melancholy “Hold My Heart,” each one tells the story of a woman wanting to find true happiness.  Bareilles again proves why she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to creating and playing music that pulls at the heartstrings.
